Tailor preparing fabric for a custom garment

Made to brief

Custom work begins with purpose.

We discuss the intended use, preferred shape, fabric behaviour and construction details before deciding how a project should be developed.

01

Everyday garments

Custom shirts, trousers, skirts and simple dresses designed around your preferred ease, length, neckline and practical details. We consider how often the piece will be worn and how it should be cared for.

02

Structured pieces

Selected jackets, vests and outer layers developed with attention to shape, support, lining and movement. We review the construction demands before confirming the design and schedule.

03

Personal pattern work

Pattern adjustments and individual drafting help translate measurements and design preferences into a workable shape. Where useful, we prepare a test version to review proportion before cutting the final cloth.

04

Special details

Choose pocket placement, closures, cuffs, collars, pleats, topstitching and other functional details. We help balance visual preferences with the limits and strengths of the chosen material.

05

Reworked garments

Selected existing pieces can be reshaped or reconstructed into a new form. We assess the available fabric, seam allowances, condition and original structure before recommending a redesign.

06

Home and personal textiles

Custom cushion covers, simple soft furnishings, fabric accessories and practical textile pieces can be made to measured dimensions with fabric and finishing choices suited to their use.

Materials & construction

Let the fabric guide the finish.

Wool, linen, cotton, denim and blends each behave differently under a needle and during wear. We discuss weight, drape, structure, lining and care requirements before settling on a construction approach.

  • Bring your own fabric or discuss suitable options for the design.
  • Review grain direction, pattern placement and fabric yield before cutting.
  • Choose seam finishes, closures and internal details for the intended use.
  • Plan fittings around the complexity and structure of the garment.

The making process

From first sketch to final press.

A custom piece develops through several decisions. We keep each stage clear so you know what is being decided, what needs approval and when a fitting is useful.

A collaborative process

Make the decisions in the right order.

We establish the brief first, confirm the pattern and fit next, then move into final construction and finishing.

01

Brief & materials

Discuss the purpose, design references, fabric and finishing preferences. We outline what is practical and confirm the initial scope.

02

Pattern & fitting

Measurements and pattern work establish the shape. A test fitting may be used to refine balance, ease and placement before final cutting.

03

Construct & finish

The garment is assembled, finished and pressed. We review the completed piece and discuss any final adjustments included in the agreed brief.
